PA ROUTE 926 OVER BRANDYWINE CREEK BRIDGE REPLACEMENT WINS PROJECT OF THE YEAR
ASHE Delaware Valley presented the Brandywine Creek Bridge Replacement over PA Route 926 project team the 2017 Project of the Year Award.
As the General Contractor on the project team, Clearwater Construction provided PennDOT with construction services for the $8.8 million bridge replacement across Brandywine Creek. The design solved a crucial flooding challenge and allowed for greater emergency service access throughout the area.
The final design solution included a new three-span, 315-foot-long bridge over Brandywine Creek and two new 48-foot-span arch culverts. The approaches also were raised nine feet while reconstructing 1,700 feet of pavement. Additionally, Creek Road was realigned and raised to better connect with the raised SR 0926. Using a full detour, the SR 0926 bridge replacement was constructed in approximately six months. The contractor constructed the Radley Run culverts and majority of raised roadway in approximately 10 weeks.
Considering a tight construction schedule, the project team exceeded PennDOT’s September 1, 2017, completion date and finished the project on August 25, 2017. Through vital public involvement and stakeholder coordination, the bridge replacement project garnered significant community interest and increased public safety capabilities.
